A singular contemporary mosaic
15,500
chances.
One image.
From a distance, a face.
Up close, thousands of decisions.

Black and white dice on panel
01 / The work
An object built from chance becomes an exercise in absolute control.
Approximately 15,500 individual dice resolve into a single, highly detailed portrait. Each cube operates as both material and mark: its colour, orientation and pips contributing to tone, contour, shadow and texture.
The image changes with proximity. Across a room, the sitter appears immediate and photographic. At arm’s length, the likeness gives way to a field of discrete objects—ordered by hand, one decision at a time.
Every shift in light and shadow begins with a single die.
02 / Material & process
Pixel.
Pip.
Portrait.
Working within a deliberately restricted black-and-white vocabulary, Vividha Sheth constructs tonal range through accumulation. The pips create a second visual frequency inside the broader composition: pattern within portrait, information within image.
The result sits between mosaic, assemblage and contemporary portraiture. Its labour is visible, but never the only point. Precision becomes atmosphere; repetition becomes expression.
An everyday object associated with chance becomes the material for something that could only exist through patience and intent.

03 / The artist
Vividha
Sheth
Vividha Sheth is an independent artist. In this singular work, she pushes a familiar, mass-produced object beyond its ordinary meaning—turning thousands of dice into an image shaped by repetition, precision and scale, and one that rewards both distance and close attention.
